When looking to achieve success in life and business, it is critical to understand what is important to you. One way to gain this understanding is to ask others why they enjoy working with you. When you have gathered enough information see what trends exist. These are times when your core values are satisfied.

I have been working with a group of small business owners in a classroom/coaching setting focusing business growth through values. This past week we talked in depth about using values to create job/role descriptions that are values based and how this process can help them be more effective in hiring employees, but also in discovering how to identify strategic partners and customers. It was a very lively session with many "ah ha" moments. Have you ever looked at using your values in these ways? If you have not, think about all of the times that you have been really satisfied with a relationship, either with an employee, vendor, or strategic partner. Then examime your values, see where there are core trends. Use this information to proactively plan for more effective and fulfilling relationships. Use the values assessment in the resources area of the website to get you started. You will find the work to be very exciting and fulfilling. If you'd like to chat more please feel free to post and also let us know at ilene@ileneringler.com. We'd love to talk about this passionate topic

I am teaching a course called NxLeveL for the Maricopa County SBDC (Small Business Development Center) and am focusing the participants on the power of values in organizational growth. I recently had an email from one of my students who had a wonderful experience with business growth and values which, hopefully, will result in a great funding source. In essence, he described a conversation he had with a potential investor and for the first hour, all they talked about was personal philosophy and core beliefs. The conversation was so powerful to both parties that the result was an offer to fund based on the relationship that had been built in this short period of time. When I read the jubulient email, I was so pleased that he had applied what he had learned, and how successful it was for him. It supports my experience that no one can ever underestimate the power of common beliefs

On a personal note, I continue to find that working on values satisfaction is key to my mental and physical well being. One of my core values is Inner Harmony, Taking time for learning, reflection and revitalizing our personal battery gives us the power to drive business results. One of the easy methods I have found to satisfy my need for inner harmony is to work daily on a gratitude journal. This fabulous idea, which I learned about in a book called Simple Abundance A Daybook of Comfort and Joy, Sarah BanBreathnach, helps me take recharge my batteries every night by writing down 5 things for which I am grateful. I have been working dilegently on this journal for about 2 months and no matter how tired I am, I do not miss a night. It is a worthwhile thing to try, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to live a more fulfilled life.

In addition to the work I do with companies on values and growth, I am core faculty at Kaplan in the MBA program. The students are adults who are taking on the extra responsibilities of learning in addition to the rigors associated with work and family. When we talk about what motivates them to succeed, the discussion eventually comes down to the type of life they would like to be living and how completing the degree will get them there. We then take the converstation to the next level and ask about values, what values will they be satisfying in this new lifestyle that the education will help them achieve. Many have not ever thought of goal achievement in this way and the light that dawns is wonderful to see. If you want to really understand how to define "better" for yourself, download the values tool from the resources page of this website. I know you will enjoy doing it and gain a good foothold in your future life satisfaction.

I recently gave a presentation on values to the phoenix chapter of ewomen network, a nationwhide very active group of women entrepreneurs. While we had only 25 minutes to introduce the concept and have them complete a values assessment, it was very gratifying to see how they were able to start identifying how to use this information in business success.

Freedom is the recognition that no single person, no single authority or government has a monopoly on the truth, but that every individual life is infinitely precious, that every one of us put in this world has been put there for a reason and has something to offer.
